Collection: Gary Martin | Paintings

It is my desire to capture and convey the transcendent essence of the Australian landscape that keeps me coming back into the studio.  I formulate my compositions from sketches, plein air gouaches, memories, and photographs.  For me, it is all about recreating the atmosphere of a particular place through a representative assemblage of local motifs, lines and, when using paint - colours.  Sometimes my artworks are an accurate technical reproduction of a particular location, but in others I re-compose elements to better convey the feeling of a place or region through colour and form.  There's a never-ending source of inspiration across our continent, and I doubt I will ever tire of observation in the field followed by composition, drawing and painting in the studio. - GM
