Growing on a big, old pine tree on my property, this circle of lichen stood out, inviting a closer look. It is not often that we stoop to look closely at lichens, and that’s a pity. They are wonderful. The title for this work comes from “Oath of Fealty”, a novel by Elizabeth Moon. SF
