Scottish Monastery, Jerusalem, oil on Linen, 35cm x 43cm, 2022 

Natural light is a showcase of recent paintings by Sandra Brand, Astro Spiller and Edward Essing. The trio spent 2022 in Europe and Israel studying the old masters and painting their surrounds. New insights were then brought back and applied across New South Wales from the Blue Mountains to Sydney’s North-West to the Central Coast. The result is a diverse collection of work that focus on the forms and atmospheric effects produced by natural light’s infinite expressions.

Astro Spiller was born in Melbourne and raised in Central Victoria.  The unique landscape of his hometown inspired him to pursue art from an early age.  This interest in landscape painting has continued into his current practice in the Blue Mountains. He was awarded the William Fletcher Foundation Development Grant in 2023.
